Skincare For Runners: Tips For A Healthy Glow
If you take your running seriously, that probably means being out in all types of weather and exposing your skin to elements like extreme cold, heat, and the sun. Skincare for runners is an important part of your fitness regime. Exposure to the elements isn’t the only problem. Problems can arise in other places hidden beneath your workout clothes.
Acne is one of the annoyance that can crop up year-round when you run. As your body heats up with the exercise, glands secrete more oil, which can clog up the pores. To help prevent this problem, shower as soon as you are done with your run.
Sweaty socks, combined with damp shoes, can also lead to the annoyance of Athlete’s Foot. Wearing socks made from non-cotton fabrics, especially technical socks, can help keep your feet dry. Find moisture wicking socks to wear for your daily runs and should your shoes keep damp, remove their insoles and stuff them with newspaper to absorb moisture. Should you get Athlete’s Foot, there are many antifungal medications you can get to help relieve its itch and burning.
Being careful in selecting work out clothes can help cut down on other irritations as well. Choosing shirts made from fabrics that wick away moisture can help cut down on acne breakouts. When you exercise, your body core temperature increases and more oils are secreted from the skin which can clog pores. By wicking moisture away, you stay drier and cooler, helping to lessen secretions.
Change socks as soon as you can after your run. If your socks have gotten damp, remove the insoles and stuff the insides with newspaper to absorb the moisture. There are many antifungal medications and powders that can be used to treat Athlete’s Foot if you get it.
Sunburns can occur all year round as well. Make sure to apply sunblock before going out and wearing hats and sunglasses can help reduce exposure to the sun’s rays and glare from the sun or snow. Skincare for runners should be an important part of your fitness routine.
